Background

At the ISIRC conference 2023 in Guimarães, a couple of PhD students and early career academics bonded and decided to create a community among aspiring social innovation researchers.

We want to learn from each other, visit each other’s campus for a research stay, or recommend courses and conferences to each other. We are excited to organize this pre-conference colloquium at the ISIRC conference for Ph.D. students and early career academics. This event fosters collaborations and facilitates networking among young scholars passionate about social innovation and entrepreneurship. During the colloquium, you learn about your peers' research, while the evening program gives you a chance to get to know each other in a cozy setting with pizza and PowerPoint karaoke.

Aim

The PhD and Early Career Researchers Colloquium encourages interaction and networking among like-minded peers, fostering valuable connections that can lead to future collaborations and research partnerships. As a participant, you can present your ongoing research and dissertation projects to a diverse and supportive audience. This platform allows you to receive constructive feedback, suggestions, and insights that can enhance the quality and impact of your work. Apart from the discussions on research projects, methods, theories, and career aspirations, the evening program is designed to create the space to get to know your peers.

Participation Method

You will work in a small group of peer researchers and one senior scholar. Each group member has read your contribution and is prepared to provide feedback and discuss the questions you want to address.

In the afternoon session, there will be expert round tables where you can join discussions with senior scholars. You can ask questions and discuss projects related to social innovation research, theories, and methods.

Furthermore, we are excited to announce that Johanna Mair will give an input session for early career scholars and PhD candidates. Her expertise in the field and knowledge of both the academic and applied sides of social entrepreneurship and social innovation will provide a unique learning opportunity for attendees.
